Some staircases just need the right handrail to pull everything together - and that was exactly the case here. This set of steps in Orono runs up a steep grade flanked by a beautiful natural boulder retaining wall. Functional? Yes. But without a solid handrail, navigating those steps safely is a different story.
We fabricated and installed a custom metal handrail that follows the full rise of the staircase. The goal was simple - give people a reliable, sturdy grip from bottom to top without disrupting the look of the space. The dark metal finish we went with works with the stone and landscape rather than competing with it.
Here's what a lot of people don't realize about custom railing work: it isn't just about bolting something to the ground. The angle has to be right, the post placement has to account for the terrain, and the whole thing has to be anchored in a way that holds up long-term. We fabricate everything in-house, so we control every part of that process.
This staircase covers serious vertical distance. A handrail on a run like this isn't a nice-to-have - it's a genuine safety feature. Whether it's kids, older family members, or just navigating a wet set of steps in the fall, having something solid to grab onto matters. That's what we built this for.
We do this kind of custom work for residential properties throughout the area. Every install is built to fit the specific space, not pulled off a shelf and forced to work.
